08.06 - Christianity in this culture?

That is what our August sermon series is all about. I got an email from one of our GPSers. She wanted to know why it is so hard to be Christian in this culture. My sermon series title is, “Being Christian in a culture that doesn’t want Christ”. Have you noticed how hard it is to really BE Christian? It seems like our faith is something that just comes alive in church or around other church people. The other question is why does the culture have such a negative attitiude toward Christians? That is what August is all about. I hope to see you there this month.

06.25 - The Roller Coaster

Happy July everybody!
I just wanted to drop a note about some of our upcoming sermon series. I have changed my mind about July and August. July is going to be about emotions. Does Jesus really have any idea what we are going through on a daily basis? Has he ever been on the emotional rollercoaster that we are on? Just wait and see. That is our July sermon series. August is going to talk about how hard it is to be a Christian in today’s culture. It is almost as though the word CHRISTIAN is a bad word. There are so many negative thoughts around that word. We will wrestle with that all through August.
In September, GPS will be talking about Jesus as warrior. We have gotten the soft, squishy, teddy bear Jesus for decades. I want to talk about the Jesus who comes as warrior. I want to talk about the Jesus that fights for us and with us. I cannot wait to preach this series. Lastly, in October, I will be talking about Satan. Why do we need a warrior Jesus—because Satan is real and knows our every weakness.
Well, is that enough to get you interested over the next four months? I hope and pray to see you on Sunday evenings at 6:30pm for GPS. Find your way at GPS Church.

05.28 - Cash Money…………

Happy Summer everybody! This is Rev. Dan the pastor of GPS. GPS is that cutting edge worship service on Sunday nights at 6:30pm in Cleveland Heights. I have some quick questions for you. What do you want more of? What do you never seem to have enough of? What always seems to be gone when you need it the most? What do most people feel is the only thing in the world that can make them happy? What do most people feel is the true treasure in this world? Did you figure it out? I bet you’re waiting for me to say Jesus. WRONG! It’s money, cash, dinero, moolah. In the midst of this current economic craziness, how are we supposed to deal with money? Jesus talks about money in the Bible more than he talks about prayer. In June GPS is going to be talking about money—not about giving—but about money and all the uncertainty that comes along with it. I’m talking debt, earnings, investments, and balance. Are you afraid to check the mailbox because of the bills that might be in it? It’s time for a new investment strategy. Come to GPS in June each Sunday night at 6:30pm and let’s talk about money. For more info and directions to GPS go to our website at GPSHEIGHTS.ORG. See ya in June.

05.27 - Not Again!

If you have heard my commercial on WKNR, then you know how I live and die with the Cleveland sports teams.  I feel like I am dying all over again with the way the Cavs have played in the Eastern Conference Finals.  I am going to be praying like crazy for a Cavs victory tomorrow night.  Yes you can pray for your favorite sports teams.  My God wants to hear from me always and often.  Just like a parent who wants to hear their child tell them all about their day, God wants to hear all about the things that make us laugh and make us cry.  Please Cavs, don’t make me cry over another Cleveland sports team collapse.  GO CAVS.

05.07 - All that the church wants is money……..

Have you ever felt this way about the church?  Is that just one more reason to keep you from coming to church?  That is what I will be talking about this Sunday at GPS.  Why is it that it always seems to be about money?  I hope you can make it this Sunday at 6:30pm for GPS.  All through the month of May I am talking about all of the things that keep us from coming to church.  Come and hear what God has to say about the all mighty dollar and what it means to his church in the world today.  God is going to speak this Sunday.  Will you be there to hear it?

05.04 - It’s A New Era!

I just want to welcome everyone back to GPS.  We are back and better than ever.  We are doing amazing things on Sunday nights at GPS.  We have started advertising on ESPN 850 WKNR.  I love sports and I love this goofy city.  I want to reach more people who love Cleveland and love it’s sports teams.  I just heard our ad on WKNR and I cannot wait to welcome all of the new faces.  Our sermon series for the month of May is all about that things that keep people away from church.  What keeps you from going to church?  Let me guess–you would rather sleep in, golf, get a root canal–The church just asks for money–they are all hypcrites–I already know that I am a bad person and I don’t need the church to remind me of it–the church is so out of touch.  Do any of these sound familiar?  If they do, then the month of May is for you.  Give GPS a chance.  I hope to see you this Sunday at 6:30pm at GPS.

12.22 - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to give you some quick updates about the future for GPS.  This Wednesday GPS will not be meeting so that people can come to one of our traditional Christmas Eve Services in our main sanctuary.  The services are at 4:30pm, 7:30pm, and 11:00pm.  All three services will be candlelight services.  They really are fantastically powerful services.  I hope to see you at one of those services.  We will meet on New Year’s Eve but the service is moved up a half hour so people can get on with their evening plans.  That means we will be meeting at 6:00pm on December 31.

The sermon series for January and February are going to be great.  In January I will be preaching a sermon series on “Telling Your Story”.  How has God been moving in the midst of your life and who have you told about it?  Someone needs to hear your story.  In the movie, “Shawshank Redemption”, the lead character Andy says that he needs to get busy livin’ or get busy dyin’.  For someone the difference between livin’ and dyin’ may be you telling them your story.  How do we do that?  It will culminate with a personal witness by a GPSer who has experienced God in a brand new way.  Please do not miss this witness.

In February I will be preaching about a new ministry within Church of the Saviour that will change our church and our community and possibly the world.  The new ministry is called “90 by 90”.  How can all of us serve 90 minutes in 90 days?  It is a challenge to serve the God who has blessed us so abundantly.  I hope that this wets your appetite to come to GPS in 2009.  God is moving in the midst of our services and without you there, something is missing.

I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  Please keep checking the website as we work to get it updated.  There has been a lot of change in our family and we are working on getting the website more up to date.  Stick with it folks.  God bless you.

His,
Rev. Daniel F. Bogre
